Make You Smile

Song number 126

It's a stunningly beautiful day in Chicagoland! I get so much happier when the sun is out. I used to only like the dark. Now I've realized that I just really like clear skies. I don't like the clouds. They block out everything in the sky that's interesting to look at. As a side note, I think the reason more people don't see UFOs is because people rarely look up and stare at the sky. Eh, I guess you kinda look like a nut looking up all the time. But, you're missing 99% of the coolest stuff by not looking up.

Annnywayyy... Today's song is upbeat and, dare I say, happy sounding. I wrote this all in one shot on acoustic guitar, because I had to run a virus scan on my computer. So, that forced me to work without my recording program to compose. Usually, I'll start my program with no idea in mind. I pick a virtual instrument and find a cool sound, then pick a note and go from there. It usually results in something I like and I form a whole song. But I had to write this one "old school" with a guitar and a pen. Inspiration can hit you quickly and this is a good way to write, because it's instant. But you have to be able to remember what you just played or sang. It requires a lot of focus. Unless you just jam and record while you're doing it, then you can go back and figure out what you did. But, that's too time consuming for the project I'm doing. I have one day to conceptualize, compose, record, mix and master a song. I'm not only racing against time, I'm racing against my own physical abilities too. I can only sing a line so many times before I have to break. I can only press my fingertips into wire strings for so long before the pain gets to be too much, to the point where I can't play with the precision needed to record 10 guitar parts. So, it's a tricky balance to achieve. I make due and get it done. Today, I got it done... on to tomorrow!

lyrics

The sun is shining, it feels like a good day to be alive
The silver linings, can't make me wish for clouds in my life

The gold I'm mining, never adds up to what I have in you
Cuz I've been pining, all my life for someone like you

And I'm feeling fine, like anything can happen here
Cuz when that sun shines, the beauty in life becomes clear
And I just want to make you smile

I've been trying, to make my way in a darkened world
I've been dying, to feel the sun wash away the gloom

High flying, the sun is out, I'm kicking up the sand
No lying, I know I don't ever want to land

And I'm feeling fine, like anything can happen here
Cuz when that sun shines, the beauty in life becomes clear
And I just want to make you smile

Let's just go dance in the sunshine
I can't be the only one

And I'm feeling fine, like anything can happen here
Cuz when that sun shines, the beauty in life becomes clear
And I just want to make you smile

I just want to make you smile
