Winter Child

Song 194

It's funny how trauma experienced as a child pops back into your head after so many years of never thinking about it. A word. A phrase. A scent. Anything could bring it all back. I feel lucky in the sense that all of that seems like it happened to a different person. I don't have a personal connection to it anymore. I guess that's one way to deal with it. Then again, every step of the way is another component making up who you are today. But even when life is ugly, it can still be beautiful. The lotus is rooted in the muck, but still ascends, a beautiful flower. The seed takes root and away I bloom.

lyrics

A bitter tasting sky, almond scented lies
There are ghosts in the smoke
A winter child tries, an endless summer dies
They laugh while I choke

See-saw, hem and haw
Back flip, jump and skip
All along it wasn't fun and games

Wishing on dead stars, sleeping in unlocked cars
The doors of the soul slam shut
Hiding tear filled jars, wondering where they are
The scars try to stay uncut

Hide and seek
Take a peek
All along the proof was in plain sight

Another starry night, hung by design

The shadow turns away
The shadow turns away
I stand in the sun
